We go back in time to the the firsts months of 1874, a period in which Mexico City was far from the city which it is today. It was just an emerging cluster of houses, buildings and shops. It was March 18 of that year, at three in the afternoon, when for the first time, about fifteen entrepreneurs dedicated to different branches of commerce met, in order to initiate discussions regarding the possibility of establishing a collective organization that represented their legitimate interests, unifying their customs and promoting the development of local commerce. That evening, the attendees commented and discussed the functions, tasks and objectives that the new institution would have the first of its kind in Mexico. After long hours of debate it was adopted a set of general principles that were embodied in a draft Constitution. A few months after meeting in the premises occupied by the Lonja Mercantil, 35 merchants finally agreed to write and sign the minutes in which is stated that on August 27 is formally founded the "Chamber of Commerce of Mexico".
